The Birth of the Department of Zoology is synonymous with the birth of the College.The Department of Zoology was started in the year 1957 for the Pre University Course.

• Undergraduate Courses in the discipline of Science were introduced in the year 1962.
• Post Graduate course in Zoology was introduced in the year 1991-92 to cater to the demanding requirements of higher education for women.
• Department has highly qualified and experienced faculty headed by Dr.Srivani Sesham.
• The faculty have published papers in National and International journals
• .The faculty members have been resource persons for various conferences, seminars.
• The faculty are members of examination committees in Constituent , Autonomous and affiliated colleges.
• The Faculty are ever updating their knowledge in the latest innovations in the subject  by attending and organising Seminars , Conferences and Workshops to cater to the needs of the students.
• Department of Zoology has an excellent academic record with our  Post graduate students achieving gold medals at university level.
• Five of our faculty members served as Principals,Vice Principals and PG Directors of this institution.
• Four of our faculty members Dr.Amtul Aziz ,Dr Priyadarshini Kapadia,Dr M.Jaya Devi and Dr G.Y.Bharghavi were proud receipients of state Best teacher’s Award.
• The department has well equipped laboratories .The department of Zoology has well-established and fully equipped Sericulture lab.
• The Department has one of the best museum with its rich and varied collection of specimens. Specimens of Reptiles,Birds and Mammals were collected from the Nehru Zoological park of Hyderabad on request. The stuffed vertebrate animal specimens were prepared with the help of curator of Salar Jung Museum Hyderabad.
• Alizarin transparencies of fishes were also prepared by Dr Amtul Aziz who was the pioneer of the department.
• To keep abreast with the latest development in science and technology, the department has conducted national and international seminars and conferences.
• Three of our faculty members Dr C.Manjusha ,Dr.D.Suneetha Devi and Mrs N.Shilaja Yougender have successfully completed minor resarch projects sanctioned by UGC.
• The Department also organises educational fieldtrips in the concerned paper to various places where they get hands on practical experience of the subject like aquaculture farms and Sericulture units .
• Students are also taken to various esteemed institutions like CCMB ,NIN etc for inspiring them to take up Research activity in their future.
• Post graduate students are guided for projects at Institutes like Zoological Survey of India, National Institute of Nutrition etc
• Faculty of Zoology have also guided students of other colleges for their projects.
• Students are given hands on experience and training in various laboratory techniques .
• Two of our faculty members from the department are pursuing Ph.D and on the verge of completion.
• Faculty members have authored Textbooks for Undergraduate curriculum.
• The Department also maintains a Vermicomposting pit to train girls in preparing Organic manure.

University Prescribed Course Syllabus is followed for both Ug and Pg Courses.

We have various combinations with Zoology as one the Optionals .At our College we have the following Combinations at Undergraduate level.

• BZC – Botony , Zoology and Chemistry
• MbZC -Microbiology , Zoology and Chemistry
• MbZAN- -Microbiology , Zoology and Applied Nutrition.
• BZAN- Botony , Zoology and Applied Nutrition.
• ZCAN- Zoology, Chemistry and Applied Nutrition.

Postgraduate course in Zoology with Fresh water aquaculture as specialisation.
