History of the Department

 

Sanskrit, the mother of vernacular languages in India and the Vedic literature is the ancient language and classical language of India.

The corpus of Sanskrit literature encompasses a rich tradition of poetry and drama as well as scientific, technical, philosophical and dharma texts. Sanskrit continues to be widely used as a ceremonial language in Hindu religious rituals and Buddhist practice in the forms of hymns and mantras.

Sanskrit is a second language at degree and intermediate levels since 1972.

The department of Sanskrit established in 1972 by Mrs.  R. Yashoda  Kumari , founder member.

Dr. B.  Vani  joined in the department as lecturer in 1979. They both contributed immensely to establish the department.

since the inception of the department, both the  interest and need of Sanskrit by the students,   has grown continuously. Now the department has 2 staff members with the strength up to 150-200 students.
