History of the Department

Sarojini Naidu Vanita Maha Vidyalaya was founded on 1962 by old Osmania Graduates Associates with departments Maths, Physics, Botany, Zoology, English, Sanskrit and Telugu. Gradually departments were increased adding Microbiology, Electronics & Computer Science.

Microbiology used to be part of Zoology till 1990 and no separate branch is existing.

   To increase the proficiency in Microbiology due to more and more applications of the subject in the industries/Parma/Biotechnology/Environmental Studies…..etc., the Microbiology Section, which used to be part of Zoology, was separated and became independent branch of Biological Sciences.

Vanita Maha Vidyalaya also introduced this course under graduation level& Intermediate vocational MLT  during the academic year 1991 with Mrs. Radha, M.Sc., Ph.D. as in charge of the Department.Taken care from 1992-1993 by Ms .T.V . Mahalakshmi & exisistng staff present are Mrs A.Ambica ,Mrs .R. Mamatha & Priyanka sathe

     The Department gradually expanded  with addition of all required apparatus needed such as Autoclave, Laminar air flow, Hot air oven, Microscopes, Ultraviolet chamber,  Incubator,  Centrifuge ,Refrigerator, Colorimeter, PH Meter BOD incubator,Water distillation unit ,Heating mantle, Colony counter,Binocular Microscopes, Micropipettes,Urinometer.

  zThe Department handles 134 essential chemicals. The laboratory now has become one of the standards among labs of the teaching centers under graduate levels in the twin cities.

  Lab is well furnished with working tables ,stules, working platforms with perfect gas connection

     The classes are being handled by experienced teaching staff and also organising  interdepartmental activities with UG Biochemisttry & PG Nutrition ,PG Zoology Departments.

The department, apart from a central library, maintains its own library with 300 number of books of  different authors belonging to Microbiology and allied subjects and it is constantly keeping in touch with new additions which  are useful to the students with the examination view point and which can also abreast new developments on the subjects in the syllabus.

             The teaching staff attended National & International webinors, workshops,FDPS,Quize compititions . Students also participate in  sports like yoga, karate, judo, caroms, Nipuni & photography.

 Many of Microbiology students took part in cultural activities like Singing, Dancing.

Students also participate in self employment courses like Tailoring, Fabric painting,beauty courses& mehendi

Department  also organize to visit field tripes to various institutes like CCMB, TB sanitorium vikarabad, CFTRI , ICRISAT , NIN , MASQUATI & Hospitals    .

Students also get trained in hospitals like Gandhi ,Nilofer ,Osmania & Apollo
