PG Chemistry Department

The Department of Chemistry came into existence in 1960 with P U.C. and B.Sc. under the guidance of the founder members Miss Hameeda Salar and Miss Meherunissa. The Post graduate Course – M.Sc. Chemistry with Organic Chemistry as specialization was started in 2002.

Vision: Moulding youthful girls into independent and innovative thinkers in Chemical Sciences.

Mission: To promote, inspire and nurture the fundamentals of chemistry.

M.Sc. Chemistry course has an intake of 36 students (30 students from convenor quota through University Counselling and 6 students from the management quota). Annual exam pattern was followed till the academic year 2007. Later on from academic year 2008 till present, Semester end pattern is being followed. The department comprised of 6 teaching faculty (4 Organic chemistry faculties, 1 Inorganic chemistry faculty and 1 Physical Chemistry faculty).Currently the PG department comprises of 4 teaching faculty, 1 lab assistant and 2 non-teaching staff. There is a provision of good infrastructure, library and well equipped lab for Postgraduation.

The faculty takes pride in teaching students as well offers practical training according to academic curriculum. The PG department also offers add- on courses in Chemistry along with the academic curriculum to enhance knowledge on hands on training, an added advantage for their placements. The department organizes guest lectures for M.Sc. Chemistry students every semester. Apart from the curriculum, industrial visits are also organized every year.

POST GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMME IN CHEMISTRY Master’s degree programs in chemistry should include:
To extend students comprehension of key chemical concepts and so provide them with an in- depth understanding of specialized areas of chemistry. To provide students with the ability to plan and carry out experiments independently and assess the significance of outcomes. To develop in students the ability to adapt and apply methodology to the solution of unfamiliar types of problems. To instill a critical awareness of advances at the forefront of the chemical science discipline. To prepare students effectively for professional employment or doctoral studies in the chemical sciences.
